Phase I of our operation is designed to provide elderly members of the community a safe place to remain during the day, while their children are at work. This phase of our organization will meet the needs of functional adults, and adults with disabilities through individual and group care. Through planned activities, elderly adults will be challenged to use their imagination, solve problems, eat healthy foods, socialize and participate in low-impact physical fitness activities.
We will provide three nutritional meals each day, that is approved by a dietician, socialization, which includes coffee time to get acquainted with each other, reading, discussion of current events, discussion of the old times, educational topics, and Bible lectures for those who chose to participate.
The program activities will consist of individual activities — puzzles, chess, crossword, music appreciation, grooming of nails and hair, drawing and painting of portraits, and activities that will keep them happy and content. Outdoor activities will include group walks, singing, playing musical instruments, art and therapy. Group games consisting of dancing, Bingo, charades, checkers, Monopoly, etc..
We will develop a health and wellness center where the elderly will have access to physical fitness equipment, information on obtaining and maintaining a healthy body, aerobics, walking, running and other healthy activities that they are not currently able to obtain, at no cost to them.
This elder day care facility will service adults age fifty-five and above, who, are not able to be left unsupervised during the day. This adult day care center will provide all of these activities in a protective setting approved by the State of Alabama.
The business hours for Phase I of the adult component are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Transportation services will be available to and from the facility, for those needing that service. The cost of these services is $100 per week for adults who are able to pay for services. The fee for those who are unable to pay will be included in our grant applications to various federal, state, foundation and corporate funding sources. Another source of funding for those who are unable to pay is through the government’s Elderly and Disabled Waiver through Medicaid. We will open in the spring with 10 adult day care participants.
